Locked away in this tower
Held here by my word
Sworn to protect
What I have never seen
Former captain
Now mere watchdog
Discarded and forgotten
By the thunder
Here in this cage
I am followed by a monster
Jealous and spiteful
There he watches over me
Why have you kept me here
When all I’ve done is serve
And slain for you
Only to be imprisoned with an animal
Surely if I fall he will usurp me
And crush me with his might
Remove my strength from its resting place
Not worthy of my name
Or title
He takes his gain from that is lost
From anyone
Or anything
He doesn't care
Oh why would you leave me here
Oh lightning
Oh thunder
Oh father
Oh Gwyn
Oh Smough
Bone eater
Though have forsaken me

The Vultures
05:05
|

They’re always circling
Always on the tale of life
Never seem to see the light
When the vultures do take flight
Pick and pry away
What they need that day
Leave nothing behind
No reason to reprimand
This is how they operate
Never willing to share their plate
Even bones don’t get a chance to rest
Vultures have no time for the dead
Twist and break away
Bone and sinew leave decay
Earth stained red with blood
Never altered by the flood
Could you not have left me with what is
Mine

As darkness falls
Waves break on black rocks
Roaring in my skull
Like the sound of fallen men
Uncertainty plagues my mind
Crawling past consciousness and into dreams
Tearing down my solitude
Exposing lights of forgotten hues
I feel their warmth run between my bones
Catching fast and burning slow
I fear not the undertow
But welcome the safe trip home
With hands so etherial
You part the cold and icy water
And although thoughts claw their way up through my throat
I cannot speak a single word
When I look upon your face
I am caught by torment and reverence
For what I see
Starring back at me
Is too damn bright
Too comely
And unspeakable
To be
Of this earth

What If
04:01

This day's been rough
It's getting late
It looks like it just might rain
Guess I'll go down to the devil's creek
Just me and my bike
The wheels a turning like that inside my mind
My music plays
Oh maybe these thoughts will just slow down
But they just speed up
I can't outpace them like I outpace these bugs
They buzz inside my head
Oh when will this end
I'm so tired of turning these wheels with nothing else to feel
Guess I'll turn around and head back home
And all of this will pass through my head
And move towards what feels like oblivion
But my bike will quicker than my thoughts
And I will feel no pain
I will let them down
In the creek which will spare me anymore loss of sleep
Whenever I sign my name
I always run out of space
I love my roots to their core
But I sure do wish these lines were longer
I always diffuse this pointless frustration throughout my life
And throughout my mockery of the cross

I’m a little too in my head
To overthink is easier than to think
Instead of silencing the noise
I simply yell a little louder
Instead of telling the monsters to go away
I let them stay until they’ve had their say
Running around till they start to tire
Only to wake up later that day
Taxing is what they are
Fuel is what they
Stronger is what I’ll be
Scared is what I will not be
Scared is what they'll be
I’ve been stuck in a rut
I can barely finish a thought
The art of focus has eluded me
And I don’t know where to start
I have hands and a heart
So why on earth
Am I failing to make this art
When it’s right there in front of me
What I want to say
I cannot for the life of me speak out loud
For if I did
The doors I would want open would certainly close
So I will keep my cool
Discharge my thoughts through my songs
So I’ll keep my ambitions high
They may fall
They may never resolve
But if I never try
Then I will never know
So that’s why everything I can spare
Is for this
